
Ward Mountain Campout

Comments: Heading to high country for a weekend getaway in the mountains outside of Ely, NV. Sights to see include a ride on the Northern Nevada Railway, a ride to Great Basin National Park and the road to Wheeler Peak which is simply amazing. The Perseid Meteor Shower should be in full effect and with the dark skies of the Great Basin, the show should be spectacular.
We have reservations in Spot 30 in Loop B, if you’d like to try to get close. Price is $12 per night, discounted to $6 with a National Access Pass.

There are also plenty of hotels available in Ely, which is only six miles from the campground.
Directions: From Ely, travel west on US-6 for 10 miles. Turn left just before Murray Summit, at the sign for the recreation area.
From Las Vegas, travel north on Highway 93 for about 86 miles, to the junction with State Route 318. Make sure to fill up fuel in Ash Springs. Follow State Route 318 north for 124 miles to US-6 and head east towards Ely. Turn right at the sign for the recreation area.
Attractions: Local attractions include the towns of Ely with its historic train rides, museum and Great Basin National Park. The historic town of Eureka is a nice day ride , as is riding to Middlegate Station on US-50, which is the Loneliest Road in America.
Great Basin National Park: The road to Wheeler Peak in the park is simply amazing, with Wheeler Peak sitting at 13,605 feet making it the second-highest peak in Nevada, just behind Boundary Peak (which was not officially listed in Nevada by the USGS until 1980).
