Elevation and Weather Notes: Jacob Lake sits at 7921 feet, so expect cool nights. Average June temperatures 78°/49° (records 98°/18°). Although June has the lowest average monthly precipitation, it is also the beginning of the Monsoon season, which may flare up some afternoon showers.
Attractions: Jacob’s Lake is within easy access to many places of interest:
- The Grand Canyon North Rim is 44 miles from Jacob Lake, and has the most spectacular views of the Grand Canyon due to its higher elevation and remoteness. There are far fewer people and nearly no tour busses. Viewing sunrise or sunset is a common thing for people to do, but the ride to from Jacob Lake to Point Imperial and Cape Royal alone is worth the trip. The Viewing Area of the California Condor Release Area is only three miles on a gravel road from US-89A and is accessible by motorcycle, however, a dual-sport or adventure bike is highly recommended.
