Come camp with us along Burro Creek in western Arizona. Sonoran-Mojave Desert Zone.
Directions: This little-known campground is located just off Hwy 93 (west side) at Milepost
140.2. between Kingman and Wickenburg. From the north it is only 15 miles south of Wickieup
which has 3 gasoline stations, fill up. From the south-east it is 56 miles north of Wickenburg. If
coming from the west it is between Kingman and Aguila via Hwys 60 and 71 to Hwy 93. There is
a new 76 gas station in Aguila, fuel up. Once you see the brown Burro Creek Rec Area sign a
1.25-mile paved road leads you down to the campground.
Sites: Use Rec.gov to make your reservation or arrange to share a site. We usually camp in the
lower loop of the campground: sites 1,2,7 to 17. Site 12 is reservable for handicapped.
Attractions: Flowing water, birding, hiking, off road. Take a curvy loop road trip from camp
to mining town of Congress, see frog rock and desert views, Yarnell, visit Yavapai 19 Memorial,
watch for duck rock, and Bagdad active copper mining town. Or just relax in camp.
Conveniences: Wickieup: (15 miles) gas stations/stores, Luchia’s restaurant. Bagdad: (25 miles)
scenic winding road with 2 gas stations, restaurant closed, Bashas grocery store. Congress: (50
miles) Dollar store, gasoline, Nichols West restaurant.
