Directions: Within the Wind Cave National Park of South Dakota is Elk Mountain Campground. Just 12 miles north of Hot Springs on Highway 385. Or from Rapid City take Hwy 79 south 50 miles to Hwy 385 then 6 miles. Follow signs to the Park Entrance Visitor Center about 2 miles off Hwy 385. Elk Mountain Campground entrance is ½ mile north of Visitor Center.

IBMC Camp Location: The campground has a main road that goes west. At the end of the road on the left is Loop C where we will camp. Loop C, has 10 sites, #36-#45 which are reservable.
Make your reservation for Loop C by using Recreation.gov. Fees: $24/$12 for Gold Agers. Sites can be shared. There are no First Come sites in this loop. Handicapped sites (#17 and #49) are available in other areas of the campground.
Campground: Each site has picnic table and fire grate. Running water and flush toilet restrooms nearby. No electric service. Showers available at KOA in Hot Springs. Cell phone service is minimal to poor as it is in a canyon environment. Firewood may be available at entrance of the campground, check with camp ranger.
Services/Conveniences: Hot Springs is a full-service city for all needs gasoline, grocery, restaurants, hardware, etc.
Attractions: Park campfire programs nightly. Elk Mt. Nature Trail near campsites. Mammoth Site Museum and The Plunge pool are in Hot Springs. A nice ride will take you to Wind and Jewel Caves, Sturgis Rally, Mt. Rushmore, and Crazy Horse Monuments. There is an historic train ride in Hill City. Plenty of twisty roads in Black Hills to ride in.
What to Bring: Elevation is over 4,000 feet so have warm clothing for evenings. Summer thunderstorm can occur at this time of year so bring your poncho or umbrella!
